Recycled Gift Wrapping (with trash)(seriously)

Sure it's fun to wrap up beautiful presents: sophisticated, classy, posh works of art
that inspire the coveted "it's too pretty to open" gasp from the recipient.
But you know what's even more fun?

Reminding them why you're their favorite friend in the first place.

I'm not sure if this extra special design element is something that actually has a name.
There's a lot of talk in the design world about rooms having one "unexpected" element,
so perhaps that could apply to present wrapping too?
But then what if the unexpected is kinda your calling card in the first place?

(screen shot texted to me of a conversation between one of my besties and her husband...
who obviously knows a present from me when he sees it)

The great thing about letting loose AND saving the planet at the same time is that not only does it reveal that you're awesome, it also reveals that you're lazy and don't like making that 5 step walk to the recycle bin.
Not that that was ever a secret.

The Short List of Three Things to Trash Up Your Gift Giving

1. A leftover blown out birthday candle that one of your children put back
in the baking cabinet after licking it clean

This special treatment is reserved for friends who have proven themselves as hopelessly nerdy as you are. Anyone you know that can sing along to a 70's Disney musical reference is worth busting out some craft paint for painting (super realistic!) waves to celebrate their Brazzle Dazzle Day.

2. A used birthday card

That adorable pup can transform from cover dog to work dog with just a little sharpie.

3. Junk mail

Every so often you get something so amazing in your mailbox that it would just be selfish not to pass it along.

Who's ready for Christmas?

P.S Oh wait! Speaking of Christmas - looky what I found the other day at the Dollar Store.

If you've got a teenage boy, husband, or grandfather on your holiday list,
words cannot adequately describe the joy that will be on their faces when they see their loot
wrapped in this dream boat.
Forget the Santa paper - it's the Biebs they want to rip open Christmas morning.

  1. Bahahaha! I would love to see the look on my husbands face if I presented his gift wrapped in Beiber. Gold!

  3. For the love of all things holy......PLEASE put a "WARNING: Depends undergarment may be needed when reading" at the beginning of your posts.

I don't even know where to begin to tell you how I LOVE your creativity. I want to marry it. Ew. And I'm not just saying that because you said I make beautiful babies....I mean, that's partly why, but well, you know.

Biebs for the men in your life??? ROTFL....I honestly bought a Taylor Swift T-shirt for my 25 year old musician son a couple years back as he was known in our town for Swift Karaoke. But Biebs? Yes, this will happen.

BTW, you've been blogged. Way past due.

  10. Please. I am on my knees begging as I type. Right here in the middle of my office. With all my co-workers looking at me as if I've lost what little mind I have left. Please, I beg of you, PLEASE, post a picture of the package wrapped in a panty liner bag!

  12. Well Happy Birthday! I just celebrated my birthday too, on the 7th. But I'm a bit older, I turned 58 this year and I don't know what I'm supposed to feel like, but I thought at this age I'd feel a LOT older than I do.
I have gotten and used so many ideas from you that I can't even name them all. Wrapping ideas are the biggest and I've had so much fun creating some really cool packages.
I have a niece who is now 23, when she was little she liked Winnie the Pooh. For Christmas we got Pooh paper and wrapped all her gifts in it. Each time she'd open a gift my husband would say "Ewwwww there's pooh on your paper" He still does this every Christmas.

This year has been a crazy one for me, so reading blogs has gone by the wayside, that's why I'm late with reading and commenting on this one. To be honest it's been crazy for a few years now, but this year my Mom fell and broke her hip, the doctors thought she wouldn't walk again, but she proved them all wrong. Never underestimate the power of a determined 88 yo woman. Today we saw the ortho surgeon and he is amazed that she is doing so well. She is living in assisted living and next Monday she'll be 89 yrs old. How about that!

Well, you asked for comments and those are mine. A little bit of admiration for you, a little bit of silly and a little bit of thankful. I hope this year proves to be your best ever!
