Like Sunshine in the Morning {a hutch makeover}

I got a text late one night from my bestie saying that a friend of hers was purging
and one of the (free) items up for grabs was a hutch.

"Do I need it?" was my reply.

"I don't know, but it's cute."

(original FB photo)

Smitten. Is what I was. The very next day it was in my garage.

(those little glass doors fit in front of the top two right shelves and slide to open,
but let's pretend it's more bookcase and less china cabinet)

There was nothing wrong with the shabby chic finish, but after getting it in the house it looked plain and drab and not at all like it belonged.
Enter some leftover paint from this "makeover" forever ago.

The pulls seemed a bit too modern for the vibe this guy was giving off, so they got swapped out.

Two pulls and a dingle dangle knob half off at Hobby Lobby = $7.53

Random bits from around the house perch on the shelves for now until I figure out exactly I want to use it for. Not so pretty cookbooks are all in one spot for reference, should I be so inclined to...you know...cook or something. It could happen.

The little peak of sunshine from the dining room makes that {previously empty} corner smile.
A big cheesy grin with dimples, I'd say.

Nothing wrong with it before,

but what a difference a bit o' color makes.

Linking up over at Sarah's before and after party.

  6. Love, love, LOVE it! My living room walls are that shade of yellow. I also recognize the Charles pretzels tin. We had one on top of the fridge growing up in St. Louis Mo. in the '60's. Thanks for sharing.

That paint color is perfect, and you're right: it wasn't bad before, but the yellow paint perked it up!

  11. This is just wonderful! I thought of you the other day when I was watching a show called "Flea Market Flip" Have you seen it. I think it's on HGTV, but wouldn't swear to it. 2 teams go to the flea market with $500 and pick out 3 items for specific challenges, they transform them and then sell them at another flea market. Who ever makes the most $ wins $5000. It is such a fun show and you would be great on it!!! Check it out.
