Dreadfully Easy Halloween Favors {for $1}

Plain, white, fold-it-yourself boxes (bags?) from the Dollar Tree wedding section:
the ultimate blank canvas "pour surprises."

Photobucket

If you've been around for any length of time, this is no surprise at all -
I've expressed my undying devotion for them year round.

Holly and jolly at Christmas time,

cute and cuddly on Valentines Day,

and now? Spookified for Halloween.

Cut squares of paper slightly smaller than the side,
and stick 'em on using your favorite wand and an adhesion spell.*

*glue sticks work too.

If you do it before the box is assembled (read: still laying flat), it's 379% easier.

Put in your loot of choice, then top it off with a piece of tissue paper {one sheet, cut into fourths, works swell} OR that shredded paper stuff OR newspaper OR....you get the idea.
Stop there, or you can tie the handles together with ribbon/twine/dental floss - preferably unused,
but I won't judge-

OR

take it another step farther, as I am wont to do, and transform metal rimmed tags into black metal rimmed tags but so much awesomer because bam! Someone's got googly eyes.

(a 1 inch circle punch makes an exact fit)
You could also ditch the key tags and have the kiddos cut out some black circles for a just as darling perfectly imperfect "body." A few strands of black yarn are tied into a half knot, where they transform into spine-chilling spidery like legs.

You know, if spiders only had 6 legs.

Halloween is all about pretending anyways. Just go with it.

  1. Seems to be a lot of arachnid love on blogs this Halloween which freaks me out a bit cause I {details deleted, better judgement kicked in} when I encounter a spider in real life. But your version lets me go with the playfulness of it all, the make believe as you say. Your creature is even cute, and please don't take that as a negative cause I know he's suppose to be spooky skeery. I think its those darn cute googly eyes :) Happy trick or treating!

  11. This are so darn cute! I actually have some of these little boxes and I'm using them as little goodie 'bags' for a "Black Friday Crop" that I'm holding. I thought they would make great little shopping bags.
