I have a denim graveyard. Ripped knees, worn through thighs (who me?) ....I can't bear to say goodbye. I could turn them into something really cool like my friend Kathryn did, but that would take a lot of work and more than one naughty word before I was done. If I ever finished it at all. So they just sit.
Until it's party time.
In the top drawer of my craft dresser I've accumulated this pile o' pockets.
Random? Perhaps. But if you heat up a glue gun and run a bead just on the edges,
they go from old pockets into HOT pockets. Perfect for sticking in colored pencils, money, or a baby bottle on the outside of a shower gift. Or go for the tried and true favorite: sugar.
I didn't want to hurt any feelings, so the legs got put to work too.
It took longer to upload these photos than it does to make one. Promise.

I love how you call it the "demin graveyard" and will have to borrow the phrase from you. Thanks for sharing.
I love this! Thanks :)
I am speechless...added a bunch to my pinterest!
Genius! Another reason to save my jeans!
So would it be appropriate to make myself a present and decorate the bag/box/container with denim? Because I like me, and I give myself presents all the time.
Then again, the pockets on my jeans would be as big as a christmas tree box, and I'm so not giving myself a christmas tree. (besides I already bought one on clearance last year.)
You are really a genius!
Validation! (or justification, or any other "ation" word that works.) I have 2 plastic bins full of old knee-less jeans I have been saving - meaning to do something crafty with them... Thanks for the awesome ideas!
Love these! I just made a few. When I get around to posting about them, I'll be sure to link back.
I finally posted pictures of the ones I made. Not quite as cute as yours, but I think mine will improve with practice. http://helpinglittlehands.blogspot.com/2011/11/scrappy-wrapping.html
Okay...there's probably some rule about leaving 3 comments in a row...but I just did another post about the scrappy wrapping I did for Christmas and made sure to link back since you were my original inspiration. ;) http://helpinglittlehands.blogspot.com/2012/01/more-brown-paper-wrapping-ideas.html#more
love what you make with your denim graveyard! Thank you for sharing your ideas and the helpful tutorial!
i make lap blanks or quilts. I just cut strips and piece together, back it and tie. they are heavy, but very warm in the winter. Or great for a picnic blanket.
Hi
Is the glue HOT or LOW temp?
thx
I'm much too clumsy to use anything but low temp :)
Love these! Now for a stupid question. Do you leave the top of the denim open so that the candy is sandwiched between the two sides of the denim, or is the candy slipped between the denim and the gift bag?? Sorry to be such a pain, but it kinda looks both ways in the pic. I'll go now...
You can do it either way. I usually cut away the backing, just leaving the seam around the edges, so that when you look at it from the top, you can't see another piece of fabric (does that make sense?), but it's totally up to you.
WOW that is fantastic, love the use of denim. Thanks for the idea :)
I have been keeping my girls jeans to sell on eBay, but I never get around to it. If I do this, they will get out of my house much faster. ;)
Love it!! TFA
I meant, "TFS"
I LOOOOVE this idea!!! Fabulous! Cannot wait to pull out some old jeans and get to it. I will also make a project and be sure and link back. Thank you sooo much for sharing!! Hugz:) Taylor
