1. put lamps on and
2. fill up this long wall space.
Enter Mr. Lovely Rich Wood 5 Foot Long Console that was perfect for all of the above plus gave the kids little drawers for their random bits n pieces.
It's taken this long to realize that miscellaneous collections/junk children need to stash/crap that has nowhere else to go/etc takes up much more room than I had imagined. Also? I can't STAND to dust, and this dark wood collected a daily layer that mocked me every time I walked by. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's furniture with an attitude.
A bad attitude, that is.
So onto Craigslist it went. 12 hours later it was gone and I had $100 in my pocket to get something different. But why spend it all when you don't hafta?
For $50 this guy was solid maple and took up less space while having more storage. Since I still had money left over, I threw caution to the wind and splurged on an $8 quart of paint.
Just look at that top. I am pleased to report that not only is there less (visible) dust, I also haven't told the kids they can "move in" yet which means all the drawers are still empty.
Something about that makes me happy.

the new dresser has so much more personality! i love it next to the guitars. well done!
It looks great, and I agree with Kristen, it has more personality and presence in the room. If my kids didn't need it for silly things like clothes I would have stolen their dresser for the living room a long time ago. Instead I have a console table on loan from my mom, which I like and actually hasn't become a catch-all yet. Yet.
Wow, that color is SO pretty. And speaking of painting things (yes, I'm gonna ask for advice!), you know my horribly blue bathroom? Well, I wanna paint those hideous drawers/cabinets. Any suggestions, besides Rainforest? I did tell you I painted the walls that sand color & got that super cute shower curtain, right? It looks so good now, minus the cabinets :(
I heart it...with a big, big heart! I love seeing what you can do!
I'm totally with you on hating dust. Where does it all come from and why? I really love the dresser--everything about it! I want to start selling my furniture now... Must go paint something turquoise!
That color is spac.tac. One of my favs for sure and love it in that room!

I can't remember how, but somehow I came across your blog a few weeks ago. And then I couldn't find it again.
I've been kind of down/a jerk today but my husband took the high road and managed to find it for me.
Thank you! I've had a few belly laughs. Love your various home tours. And your decorating is lovely/inspiring.
HELL-OO...You also painted the paneling black (in the entry). Sorry, I'm a little slow. You are my HERO, you brave woman!! I humbly bow, and stare at my white paneling with head hung in shame.
I love that!! The color is so cha-cha-cha. I'm in search of something like that for my kitchen!! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm LOVING yours!! Very fun!

Thanks for posting that beautiful green and sharing the Martha Stewart color as well. I'm going to paint an oak sofa table green, and the shade you used is exactly what I want. It is a bit unexpected for me to paint this table, as I've had it for 30+ years when I loved oak. Yuck. I got tired of it. I'm going to paint a design on top of the green. I will share it with you once I do it--probably next spring as I'm still regrouping from moving last year. I love your blog. You are very clever! BTW, I'd like to paint a chest/armoir that's in my craft room that green color. When I mentioned putting paint over the pine wood piece, my friend raised her eyebrow. "You're going to paint that?" I will need help moving it to the garage to paint. Sorry to write a book on your blog but now I know whom to visit (that's you) when I need motivation.
I have really enjoyed scrolling through your site. You are very creative and have such a wonderful gift!! I would like to mention, however, that the manger scene of Jesus' birth is most certainly and without a doubt in the NEW Testament! =) Can't wait to keep looking through your site!
that's what you call TRANSFORMATION.. it isn't an ordinary dresser now. you just made it sooo purrfect! you go girl!
quality website design
I love your style. I hate dust too, and we live in a very dusty place. Recently we've gone furniture shopping and I had to drill it into my husband's head that I didn't want any tables (end tables, coffee tables, a table like your craigslist piece) with a shelf on the bottom. What is the point? You can't clean under there and you'd have to get down there and dust the stupid shelf all the time! He's finally gotten the point, but the glazed look in his eye when I remind him tells me he doesn't quite get why I'm so adamant.
I have a few dressers that are in rooms other than the bedroom too. They hide a multiple of sins and when painted a nice colour, look good too. I find a lot of my clutter has simply been shoved in a drawer and forgotten about though! But better out of sight than in piles on the kitchen table!
That, my dear, is an Ethan Allen dresser. It will last forever! Well done.
