Blame It On The Rain. Or Spring. Or My Medication.

This summer it'll be two years that we've been in this house. This is a momentous occasion because:

1. Aside from our first house, it's the longest we've ever stayed put.

2. I've managed to live with a too dark paint color without losing my mind. Mostly.

This week I took the plunge after - wait for it - trying out a sample and living with it for awhile.

I know.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE the first color. It's luscious and dreamy and warm and....too deep for our house that gets very little light, thanks to a covered porch in the front and tall trees in the back. Great thing come summer time, not so great for being surrounded by a beautiful rich color.

So it was time for a change. The new color is a breath of fresh air. Or should I say campfire air? It's called "Toasted Marshmallow" from Martha Stewart. Lighter than I normally prefer, but perfect for a lamps-must-always-be-on room.

We color matched it at Walmart, which meant for the same price of 2 gallons of paint at Home Depot, we got a five gallon bucket. Plenty of leftovers to finish up spots like this...

(notice how it looks so light next to the gold, and so dark next to the white? Color is all about context.)

and the upstairs kids hallway that's still a flat white,

and perhaps even into the boys room.

Ever notice that I've never showed that one? It's because there's nothing to see. It's the same today as when we moved in.

Except for the lingering smell of dirty socks. We have managed to add that.

Maybe Jordan will even grant me permission to paint his "really cool cabin-y door." I can only hope.

  1. I like the new color. I painted this week too but for different reasons. I used 'Cabinet Coat' paint for the beadboard in my bathroom. I wish I had more of a decor budget. I added some throw pillows in the living room and it was a BIG splurge!

  2. I dig colors like that, so I really really like it. Looks great! You coming back to Fresno soon? I need my living room painted :( Feel free to bring Martha with you!

  3. How could you not love a color called "toasted marshmallow"? I want to eat it!

That is one pretty cool door... ;)

  4. and by the way, if you're on medication, I'll have what you're having.

  5. Very nice! I want to be one of the people that come up with color names. Now can you come to my house and finish all my projects?
