With A Catch Phrase Like That, How Could I Say No?

As much as comments make me self conscious, this time I really wanna know.

I'm amazed at how many emails I've gotten from all of you out there and I wonder,

"How'd they find me? And why would they keep reading?"

So now I'm asking.

How did you get here?

And why do you keep reading?

Oh, and the most important thing of all: if you were stranded on an island and could only listen to one song, what would it be?

66 comments:

  1. I have no clue how I got here, but I'm glad I did. I've been around since the summer and I love what you've done with your house! I like your style... so I'm here to stay!

  3. I also can't remember how I originally found you... but I'm always entertained when I stop by. :0)

  4. Don't remember how I got here .... probably followed a comment you made on some other blog :-)

Favorite song ... depends on the day

  5. I got here from Susie or Jennifer's blog, I think. Or maybe it was from your facebook page. I can't remember what I ate for dinner last night, much less how I got here! I keep reading because your creative and inspiring, things I'm not. I've gotta have someone to copy ideas from! You have a way with words that is just fun to read. You always have!!! It's fun to get a glimpse into the lives of friends I have not seen in years. As far as I song goes...I'm going to have to go with something from Bob Marley. It never gets old. Thanks for sharing bits of your life with us!

  6. found you from Jennifer W's blog (who happens to be a sister-in-law of an old college friend....clear as mud?)

I tune in for lots of reasons:

    -I'm 6 feet tall too (and my husband claims he's 5 10' but realistically he's 5'9)

    - I'm a special ed teacher and love your perspective on parenting special kiddos

-I drool over all the decorating and demo/construction

    - you're hilarious (in the totally real un-contrived sense)

  7. forgot to add..I totally copied your monogrammed/paper/framed thing-a-ma-jig..

  8. I don't remember how I found your blog, but I keep reading because your family is so cute, and so real. And I like your home projects, and Craiglist adventures. :) Plus, I'm LDS, too. I gotta support my fellow Mormon girls. :)

  9. Who knows how I got here. Did you link up to something maybe? But I'm glad I'm here because we are internet BF. And our love of potbelly cookies and mantles.

And the song ... It Is Well.

  10. I got here from Facebook :) I love your blog because you are hilarious! You are my kinda gal. Second to that- I love to see your projects.

  11. I can't remember how I found your blog, but I did remember to pick up my son from preschool today so I feel like I'm doing pretty well. I spent some time last week reading through some of your previous entries and I love your home makeoevers, but even more, I love your sense of humor. I laughed so hard at the picture of your son drinking from a two-liter bottle of soda (in a post about your husband, I think) that my four-year-old became alarmed! As for the song, Closer to fine by the Indigo Girls would keep me happy for at least a little while! Tricia Hicks

  12. I found you from a DIY Day at Kimba's....so glad I did :) I love your decor ideas and most of all you crack me up!

  13. I didn't realize you hate comments. After this I will try to quit, but I said that with diet pepsi too. Already off the wagon on Jan 14th. You know I found you from my sis and we have always been in awe of your creativity. You were the one who told her about ikea, she told me. It is a landmark in life when you find out about ikea! That's why you'll always have a special place in my heart. He he he. You also gave me faith to take the leap from garage sales to craigslist.

  14. Hi, I'm Mindy. My sister, Marie, was your church friend back in high school. I started reading your blog not knowing who was writing it. It is very creative and so funny. That is what got me hooked. Marie and I are talking one day and I tell her that I really enjoy reading the "Older and Wiser Blog." She then tells me that it was you. You made me laugh in high school and you are still cracking me up today! You have such a beautiful family. Thanks for sharing all of your wisdom with me, love the the title by the way.

My song would be "Eye of the Tiger," thanks to Guitar Hero and my six and eight year old boys. They have been singing it non stop since Christmas. Thanks Santa for the gift of music.

  15. Wait. Where am I?!
You're on my Google reader. No escape.
    Kiss. By Prince.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't know how I got here. I keep reading because what you write is interesting, and I really like your projects.

Um, just one song? Probably a hymn. Be Still My Soul. Because I wouldn't take well to being stranded at all.

  17. First time here and found you thru Thrifty Decor Chick. I will follow your blog because I too witnessed the first white Christmas in 80 yrs. here in DFW. A Fort Worth girl I am. Look forward to getting to know you better!

  18. Just commented and then reviewed your home makeovers. Wow! I will be back not because of where you live, but what you did with where you live. You are very talented and inspire me! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  19. You found me, so I followed you back.

Isn't if fun to see all the people come out of the woodwork?

I would most definitely listen to Sleeping to Dream(live at the Eagles ball room) by Jason Mraz.

    That song makes me happy.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't remember how I got here???

I keep reading because we have similar tastes in decorating.

If I were stuck on an island and could only listen to one song it would be "Sweet Thang" by Mary J. Blige.

  21. I can't remember exactly how i endedup here, maybe via the Nesting Place? I enjoy your entries so keep up the good work! Favourite song? Too difficult, maybe and album....how about Supertranp, Crime of the Century, that never gets old.

  23. I was cleaning out my blogroll and searching for new blogs to inspire and entertain me. Your link was on someone's page and I followed it and now have you blogrolled. Thank you for the entertainment!

As for the one song....Eagles "Hotel California" would be my song of choice.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I found you through another blog, she linked to your great teacher gift idea. Then I realized we live in the same town based upon the weather thing on your blog and of course one of your kids had his elementary tee shirt on and I knew for certain we lived in the same town. When I wanted the Let Them Eat Cake photo I emailed you. And emailed you again after all your great updates and here I am stuck in passivity and can't make a decorating move.

I still need you to come over and help me pick out paint!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Found you through Thrifty Decor Mom. Love your decorating style. You're in my google reader now, so there is no escaping!

    Song...Home by Michael Buble

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think I discovered you from a friend's friend blog....'cause obscure chains like that make so much sense, but I really jusst kind of stumbled on you. I keep coming back because you are witty and creative. :) And...one song? Hmmm...probably theone my husband wrote for me when he proposed, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hmmm, I'm not sure exactly. I followed a link form another decorating blog that mentioned one of your projects. Probably from Nester but not sure. As for the song, Amazing Grace. No doubt. Love that song - the music and the lyrics. And if I'm on a deserted island, I'll need the reminder that I'm never really alone.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have no clue how I got here. Maybe Nester? Anyway, I keep coming because of your style and your humor. I love the before and afters you share with us.

  30. I got your blog link from Jennifer Schwartz, wife of James Schwartz, who you knew way back when he was a missionary! (right?!) At the time Jenn was my counselor in the Primary Presidency, now James is in the Bishopric!
You are VERY talented and hilarious! I really enjoy reading your blog. It ALWAYS brings a smile to my face! Keep up the fun projects and posts!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Honestly, I don't remember HOW I got here! I stick around because we have a lot in common. I enjoy your design work and it inspires me. You are also hilarious which doesn't hurt either. Happy de-lurker day.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm sure I found you from a link somewhere else some time back, but don't ask me what that link was. I keep reading because I love to see home projects.

Can I just beg and plead now for no music on the blog?! Can't stand it. I have a hard time reading and listening to music at the same time!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Find you?
How can I get rid of you is the question.
    Song?
Probably the "Worm Song" by Brendan.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dont' ever stop the words from flowing! It made me cry (in a "I'm so proud of all my children" way) to see how many lives you touch (and make their day) without even knowing it!

How did I find you? Well, I think you know that story... you found me!

For some reason I still like "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" by Aretha Franklin.... Lots of memories with that song!

    Love,

    Your MOMMY

    ReplyDelete
  35. I found you through someone's blog roll, but I can't remember whose. I love your blog and now have you on my 'roll.

As for songs, it's so hard to pick just one, but right now I'm in love with Hallelujah, the Jeff Buckley version.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Dear Rebecca,
    We were neighbors.
    Brendon pooped on my carpet.
And...I keep reading because you're entertaining. And....as far a one song for the rest of my life....I think I'll pass. I'd rather just listen to the ocean.
Luv your guts (and your blog)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Geesh Rebecca,
I feel pretty much privileged that YOU the NOW FAMOUS girl helped paint by clock black and helped choose our paint color. Do you remember the name? Nathan does! To think I have eaten little smokey hot dogs for a New Year's party at your house. I feel famous now too, sort of.

    ReplyDelete
  38. well you've done much better than me. I put the Delurker up and guess what.....got one comment! haha...don't know what's wrong but oh well, I love my blog and I guess that's all that counts

    ReplyDelete
  39. Just found you yesterday. I don't ever remember from where. I found your fireplace post. I have a huge, dark red fireplace that takes up an entire wall in my family room, and I'm inspired to at least put something over the top of the mantle!

Fave song if on an island - would have to be something by Jimmy Buffett.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Not sure how I ended up here - probably trying to block out the kids and so blog surfing a little. I was interested in your home projects and then was amused by your daily life...

    ReplyDelete
  41. you were in google reader under recommendations

    ReplyDelete
  42. I found you on Jennifer's blog. I keep coming back to see the amazing things you do in your house, and to enjoy your sense of humor.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Funny you should ask, actually. I decided this afternoon (after a couple of hours of scrolling through my Google Reader at a pretty steady clip) that I am following WAY too many blogs and at this very moment am mercilessly expunging countless blogs from the roll. Wanna know why you get to stay? I don't remember how I got here, but I've kept coming back because you make me laugh. And because I love the things you do to your house.

As for your last question, "Losing My Religion" by REM. Don't ask.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I got here from Thrifty Decor Chic. I stay because you are freaking hilarious! I love that your life is real and that you say it like it is. Life is messy. I love it!!! One song....so hard something from U2.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I, for the life of me, can't remember how I found you....probably because you have awesome re-do's and I like your decorating style. And you're a funny funny girl.

I could never listen to just one song. Never. Because I will listen too it too much and then end up never wanting to hear it again.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm lucky enough to actually know you, although I feel like I've gotten to know you a lot better through your blog than I did when you lived down the street from me. Your blog is hilarious like everyone says and it's also very informative. I don't even have to ask people why they read my blog because EVERYONE would say that they're my family members or friends. Maybe I should put something useful and informative on my blog so I could be famous like you. But then I'd have to be creative, talented, hard-working... I think I'd better just stick to posting the random daily activities of my family. Oh yeah, and I'd listen to Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N Roses.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Just so you know, I NEVER tell that story to any one. (seriously)
I only even brought it up in a pathetic attempt to match your humor. Maybe, just maybe relating mortifying stories isn't the best way to be humerus though........;)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I found you when I was your VT way back when you didn't have kids! You taught me way more than I taught you, like how to throw a baby shower and how to not be afraid of paint. You were hilar then and now! Now it's just long distance blog love!

    ReplyDelete
  49. i can't remember which of you phillips sisters i found first - or maybe you found me? i don't know! i'm so glad to have kept in touch, if only through the cyber world. i do love stealing all of your ideas and of course, i always give you the credit.

song: beyonce's "all the single ladies"!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I got here cause a lady named pennie and a guy named David hooked up! Then a girl names Liz got you to start a blog and here we are! I love waiting for your newest posts, they make me laugh out loud and make me want to continue on the quest of my half sanded table... My song of choice TODAY would be Miley Cyrus, PARTY IN THE USA! LOL.. man I wish we could meet!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't know where I found you--maybe oneprettything.com? or another crafty blog......... I love your ability to JUST DO IT. I have so many things I want to do but just put the ideas in a file and never do them. You don't. I live near you and want to come over and play.

    ReplyDelete
  52. no clue!

    absolutely entertaining! and perfect taste!

    irreplaceable -- beyonce.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I don't remeber how exactly I found your blog- I often follow links to the people who commented above me on other people's blogs- figuring if we have that blog in common maybe I would like their's. I like your humor. And your post style- short posts with lots of pictures keep my (short) attention span interested. I often skim long wordy posts or leave a blog alltogether.

My song would be that- if you like pina coladas. and getting caught in the rain... song

    ReplyDelete
  54. I found you because I asked you for your blog address when you first moved here!

    And now your FAMOUS! :P

Oh, Party in the USA would be my pick for the moment. Next week it might be different.

    ReplyDelete
  55. *you're

I hate it when others do that and now I just did. PFFT!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I just found you through Nest Files...the "Going Topless" post hahaha....and my song..."Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" by PM Dawn or "Shattered Dreams" by Johnny Hates Jazz. Can I please have two? Since I'm stranded on an island and all...

    ReplyDelete
  57. I don't remember how I found your blog, I think it was one of your projects around the house that caught my eye.

I have been reading your blog for about 5-6 months.

I keep coming back because: I love your home project posts, your hair ROCKS(I wish I have the self confidence to do my hair like yours.)And I love hearing about your mom moments.

The one song I would want if I were stranded on an island.....
    "Wonderful Merciful Savior" by Selah.

    Love your blog.

  58. I don't think I've ever posted before (obviously nothing exciting to say), but since we are related I figure it's OK for me to blog stalk you. I keep reading to see what you come up with next. And as for a song, I think I would prefer silence.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Not sure how I found you, but I love your home improvement and sense of humor. I also like your family stories; I"m not sure how you accomplish anything with 5 kids, so you totally motivate and inspire me. My kids are screaming....no time to proofread... :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I can't remember either how I found you. I have been stalking...ummmm following your blog for close to a year now and have enjoyed so much all that you have shared. I don't always leave comments but rest assured I DO check out each new post.
    Keep it up, you're terrific.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have no idea how I found your blog (probably saw it on another blog) but I lerbed at first read and have been a lurker ever since. I enjoy your blog because you come through in your writing as real...like someone I'd like knowing in the real world. I've never commented because I'm weird like that but your post inspired me to delurk myself. Oh yeah, and I also love all the kewl projects you do-with five kids no less. I can barely keep my beds made and I only have two.
As for the song, it would be "Soul Bossa Nova" by Quincy Jones. You can't but be happy listening to it.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I found your blog by following links on DIY board and batten. Perhaps Kimba or Nester. I think your accomplishments are amazing and your sense of humor keeps me coming back. Not sure about a forever song.

    ReplyDelete
  63. you know why i'm here...
    you know why i stay...
    and..........anything but THE FRAY...sheesh, he's such a whiner...!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Started "blog stalking" you a while back.... found you off of a friend's blog (someone I've known for about 20 years)... You had a familiar face, but couldn't put my finger on it. Then, when you posted about your trip home, to Fresno.... I saw your family members... I started having flashbacks of my teenage years at Girls' Camp. Wow... SMALL world! We've never met face to face.... but it's probably a good thing... I'd be so star-struck I'd make a fool of myself. "Thank you" seems hardly enough... but thanks... for being YOU. As for my song... zip. Nada. Zilch. The waves would be music to my ears!

    ReplyDelete
  65. did you ask everyone how they found you since you haven't found yourself yet? ;) you know i love ya and you will always keep me coming back for more (puking that is!) and did you really need to pull off the frame and redo it on the kitchen door. my girlfriend and i agree that you think it's the projects that are cheaper than therapy, but all those projects would put US IN therapy. keep up the inspiration girlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  66. oh and in case you were wondering my song of choice would be: avalanche by david cook.
