What To Do After The Kids Come Home From School

I am blessed to have a job (can you call it that? really?) that allows me to be off in time to pick the kiddos up from school on my way home.

You would think that the whole tornado of backpacks/homework/mom-my-teacher-said-you-need-to-sign-these-papers/looking to see what the dog chewed up today while we were gone/me wanting to be left alone for five seconds is that too much to ask so I can at least take off my shoes would drain all my energy. Make me want to just sit down for a few moments and r e l a x.

Yeah. You would think.

Except sitting down isn't how I relax.

After all, how can I even breathe when my hall looks like this today? Or since Saturday.

Some of these guys were originally hanging in the game room, then moved to the living room,

and now that I have my mirror, they got booted to the floor. But that's where I'd be putting them anyway. Yep, the floor.

Whenever I'm going to hang up a bunch of pictures gallery style, I always figure out the placement on the floor first. That way you can move it all around as much as you want. And I like to move it move it. Especially when it looks like garbage.

(I promise this looked great in my mind.)

When I get it just right, or good enough and as right as it's ever going to be,

I measure the space (12 feet long in this case) and find the middle,

then I start there and work out, Jane Fonda style. Minus the headband. And firm thighs. That's it. Now that the hallway is clear and everything's off the ground I can finally sweep. Tomorrow.

If I feel like it.

Which isn't likely.

  4. Looks great! And that's a lot of picture moving. Looks like you added a few more this time around in the hallway. I love the kids artwork on display and I bet they do too!

  5. Great idea for a hallway. My kids would love this in their hall. If only I saved their art... I'm the exact opposite of a packrat. WHen I ask to see something belonging to my kids, they preface it with an anxious "But don't throw it away, ok?" Really cute though, I'm totally borrowing this. I especially love the inclusion of the 7. Unexpected, but it really works.

  9. SUUUUUPER CUTE!

My Mom lays the photos out on the floor too. I thought that was such a genius idea (I guess genius minds link alike, eh?).

Courtney has so much artwork I need to do either what you have in Brenden's room or a collage like this.

  14. Love it and love the mirror too. Hey I can send Kennedy over to do some sweeping;) She "swept" the sidewalk after Justin mowed the lawn last night. I'd recommend wearing shoes after her sweeping though.

  16. I still wish I could get the whole process started...Hasn't happened yet. Perhaps this is yet ANOTHER Project that you can help with when you come... what has it been... 3 years since you started the handles on the drawers? The drills and screw drivers are charged and ready to go. Looking forward to more changes on your Blog.... That's a GIVEN! You did good.

    Love, MOM
